Joshua Sherman

Registered Psychologist in Bendigo

Hi, and welcome to Balance Point Psychology.

I started this practice to follow my passion for providing professional, evidence-based psychological support to people in Bendigo and across the Greater Bendigo region.

I work with adults and adolescents aged 16 years and over, supporting a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns.

My goal is to provide a calm, supportive space where you can better understand yourself, work through challenges, and make meaningful progress toward your goals.

Therapy Approach

My treatment approach is grounded in evidence-based therapy, with a strong focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

What is CBT?

CBT is a practical and goal-oriented therapy that helps you understand the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and physical responses. It can support you to identify unhelpful patterns and develop more effective ways of coping.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy commonly used to support recovery from trauma and distressing life experiences. It can help reduce the emotional intensity of difficult memories and support the brain to process experiences in a more adaptive way.

How does therapy work?

I tailor therapy to your individual needs, goals, and circumstances, with a focus on practical strategies, meaningful progress, and care informed by current research. Approaches such as CBT and EMDR are evidence-based therapies with strong research support for a range of psychological difficulties.

I am able to help you utilise evidence-based therapies that can help you overcome a wide range of challenges, including:

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • stress and burnout

  • trauma and PTSD

  • grief and loss

  • low self-esteem and confidence

  • sleep difficulties and insomnia

  • relationship and interpersonal difficulties
